Lifeguard Gear and Apparel
Lifeguards are responsible in monitoring swimming pools and beaches. They rescue swimmers who are in need of help. They are also responsible in keeping the beach a pleasantness place to go to. To help them perform their jobs well, lifeguards should always have their lifeguard gear on hand. They have floatation devices, transport devices and medical equipment. It is also important that they wear swimsuits that are suitable for water rescues. There are some people who have difficulty in coming out of the water on their own. Lifeguards use floating devices, like the rescue tube, to keep these people afloat. Transport devices are used to move injured people. An example of this is the spine board, lifeguards strap the body of the victims to this board to move them easily and avoid causing any more damage to their injuries. Lifeguards are also trained on how to administer first aid in case of emergencies. Their first aid kit is always a part of their gear.
The uniform of lifeguards may vary as it usually depends on their assigned area. However, some elements are pretty much a standard when it comes to lifeguard apparel. For one, the color should promote visibility especially when they are in the water. The most popular color is red. Some lifeguards wear orange, white, blue and black. A red cross or the word ‘lifeguard’ is usually printed across a lifeguard’s clothing. Lifeguard apparel is made out of high quality materials that are both durable and waterproof. The garment should be able to withstand being exposed to chlorine and water all the time. The harsh chemical and salt residue may cause their uniform to fade and discolor. It is very important that a lifeguard’s clothing would stay in tip-top shape because it is one way of identifying them.
